One of my greatest joys in painting is bringing out a person’s personality in a portrait by catching an expression or a dimple that is barely noticeable, and then watching a mother’s or grandmother’s delight as she views her loved one’s portrait. I love to tackle a project that will be a challenge for me to paint in the minutest detail. Achieving a dull or shiny look complete with reflections and contours on a chrome project or getting the back lighting right for a still life that pops the many facets of a crystal decanter are delights for me. What a satisfying experience it is to be able to bring those to a piece of paper or canvas that was once blank…making it three dimensional and inviting! God gives us gifts for the pleasure of others, but the process of pleasing others is a wonderful journey, and oh so satisfying!
